SENATE DFL CAMPAIGN CHAIR SENATOR ERIN MURPHY STATEMENT ON LEADER MELISA LÓPEZ FRANZEN
Saint Paul, MN – State Senator Erin Murphy, Chair of the Senate DFL Campaign, released the following statement on today’s news that Senate DFL Leader Melisa López Franzen will not seek reelection:
“Senator López Franzen is a trailblazer, serving our state and this caucus with honor. Her contributions to Minnesota will last long after her time in the legislature is done. My Senate colleagues and I are grateful for having had the opportunity to work with her, and for her unflagging commitment to our state and its future.
Looking forward, the fundamentals of this campaign remain unchanged. With record fundraising, a robust candidate recruitment program and thirty seven newly drawn senate districts that favored President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, the DFL is in a strong position to flip the Senate in November and take the majority in the 2023 session. Our campaign leadership team consisting of Campaign Director Megan Hondl and Senators Nick Frentz, Steve Cwodzinski, Lindsey Port and Kari Dziedzic look forward to working with each of our members and candidates to compete for every vote in every district.
Our campaign, and this election, has always been about the issues and Minnesota’s future. We will continue uninterrupted and undeterred in our fight for an economy that works for Minnesotans, safe, healthy and just communities where we can live without worry or fear, and protecting the quality of life that makes Minnesota the place we choose to call home.”
