Richard J. Cohen represents SD64 in St. Paul. Cohen was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives from district 63B in 1976. He was reelected post redistricting to the House in 1982 and 1984 for district 64B. In 1986, Cohen ran for the State Senate and defeated the last remaining Twin Cities Republican Senator. He was reelected in 1990, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2012.
In 2009, Cohen was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH). Cohen is considered by many to be the leading champion for the arts in the Minnesota Legislature.
Cohen was born in St. Paul and graduated from Highland Park Senior High School. He earned his B.A. from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN.
