Charles “Chuck” Wiger (September 1951) represents SD 55, which includes portions of Ramsey and Washington counties in the northeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. He was first elected to the Senate in 1996, and was re-elected in 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2012.
His special legislative concerns include education, economic development, health care, and the environment. An attorney, Wiger graduated from North High School, Hamline University (B.A., magna cum laude, J.D.) and the University of Colorado (Boulder) School for Institution Management. In addition to serving in the Senate, he works at Securian Financial Group. Prior to that, he man- aged several area chambers of commerce.
Wiger has been active in public policy issues since he was 21 and first elected to the District 622 North Saint Paul- Maplewood-Oakdale School Board. For three decades, starting in 1973, he was elect- ed and re-elected seven times and completed his final three years as board chair. Chuck was also elected twice as a supervisor on the Ramsey County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, which he chaired before moving to the State Senate. From 1983 to 1989, Wiger also served two terms as a member of the Metropolitan Council, represent- ing parts of suburban Ramsey, Washington, and Hennepin counties.
