As Diesel Prices Skyrocket, Farmers are Struggling to Make Ends Meet
Mark Legvold, candidate for SD58, calls on both Republicans and Democrats to provide relief to farmers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORTHFIELD, MN. — State Senate candidate Mark Legvold (SD58), a lifelong farmer, is calling on leaders in Washington to address skyrocketing diesel prices as Minnesota farmers head into harvest season.
Diesel prices have reached record levels, putting additional pressure on farmers at one of the most fuel-intensive times of the year. Minnesota’s average diesel price is now more than $6.30 per gallon, up significantly from roughly $3.60 at the same time last year.
For farmers who rely on diesel-powered equipment, the spike is adding thousands of dollars to the cost of getting crops out of the field. Minnesota farmers have already reported significantly higher fuel costs heading into this year’s harvest. Farmers are feeling the squeeze with higher input costs, struggling markets, and equipment costs reaching staggering numbers.
“Make no mistake, the rapid rise in diesel prices is a crisis for farmers and consumers and is a direct result of the Iran War; it must end,” said Legvold. “Since the US Senate can’t limit Trump’s recklessness in Iran, I’m calling for Congress to pursue targeted diesel tax relief for affected industries. Farmers are already facing rising costs and uncertain markets, and they shouldn’t have to shoulder the burden of skyrocketing fuel prices alone.”
