ABOUT KRISTY JANIGO:
Kristy was raised in small towns throughout North Dakota. As the daughter of two teachers, she learned the importance of hard work and a quality education from an early age. From the military to city council, she has dedicated her life to helping others through public service and is running for the Minnesota Senate to continue serving her community.
Kristy joined the North Dakota Army National Guard when she was just 17 years old and still in high school, making her a third generation Army soldier. Kristy served six years and reached the rank of E-5 sergeant. Helping veterans has become a driving force in her life.
As a county veterans service officer, Kristy was part of the effort to reach an effective end to veteran homelessness in Minnesota. She serves as a contract manager where she conducts site visits and financial reviews with a behavioral health services portfolio, ensuring the integrity of county government programs. Kristy was elected to the Maple Grove City Council in 2022, where she now serves as liaison to the Planning Commission and the Transit and Mobility Committee. For three years, Kristy served as a volunteer legislative advocate for two statewide veterans nonprofits at the State Capitol and gained experience drafting bills, seeing them through the committee process, and persuading authors to sign on.
Through her work at the city, county, and legislature, Kristy understands the complex challenges we face and will work to improve the lives of Minnesotans.
